Preparations for Internet Governance Forum begin

The global Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2021) will take place on December 6-10, 2021, but preparations are already in full swing. Any interested party can contribute to planning the IGF 2021 forum agenda with proposals on key topics by filling out the special form on the IGF website.

Also, anyone who took part in IGF 2020, which was held online, can share their feedback. The IGF 2021 organizers expect proposals on the forum’s format and logistics here.

The Russian Internet Governance Forum (RIGF 2021), organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, continues to collect topics and proposals. RIGF 2021 will be held on April 7-9, 2021. Proposals for topics and ideas for the agenda and the forum in general from the most active community members will be accepted through January 31, 2021 here.

The last global Internet Governance Forum was held on November 2-17, 2020. IGF 2020’s theme was the internet for human resilience and solidarity. Unlike previous years when over 10 different topics were discussed, four main themes were picked in 2020: (1) data; (2) inclusivity; (3) confidence; and (4) environment. Preliminary IGF 2020 events, sessions for beginners, thematic introduction sessions as well as open forums, NRI and DC sections were held on November 2-6 during the first phase of IGF 2020. The forum’s official opening ceremony took place on November 9; the closing ceremony with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as the speaker took place on November 17.

Experts from the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ took the most active part in IGF 2020. The center’s Youth Projects Manager Ilona Stadnik spoke at the Dynamic Coalition on Schools of Internet Governance session and presented the results of the first Russian Summer Internet Governance School held in last August and September. Also, the center’s Chief Analyst Maria Kolesnikova moderated the IDN and EAI Universal Acceptance session as well as delivered a report in the session on multilingualism online: old challenges and new perspectives, where she described Russia’s experience in launching and developing the Cyrillic ccTLD .РФ. Moreover, the Coordination Center’s projects (RIGF and the Youth RIGF Summer Internet Governance School) were presented at the IGF 2020 Village exhibition.
