The meeting of the ccNSO's Strategic and Operational Standing Committee (SOPC) members has taken place on the final day of ICANN74. To recall, in December 2021, Irina Danelia, Deputy Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, was appointed Deputy Chairman of SOPC. Andreas Musielak, board member of DENIC, the .DE registry, was also appointed the Chair of the committee at the same time.
During the session co-moderated by Irina Danelia, SOPC consulted with country domain registries on areas of work that the committee should focus on as part of the forthcoming discussion of ICANN's operational and strategic plans. To do so, there was a survey for all participants - both offline and online. The results of the survey indicated that, while participating in ICANN's strategic and operational planning and related budgeting processes, the committee should pay attention to initiatives that directly affect country domains while keeping the overall picture and strategic goals of ICANN in mind. The community also sees value in the working interaction of the SOPC with other committees and working groups of the ccNSO and ICANN.
“I think it was a good moment to find out whether any changes in the work of the committee are needed. We had a number of internal discussions, and at the session we learned the opinion of the community - whether we are going in the right direction and whether the ccTLD registry community supports our ideas. During the session, we heard a lot of comments and reasonable proposals and realized that we are generally moving in the right direction,” said Irina Daneliya.
The ICANN74 Policy Forum concludes its work today and the next Forum is going to be held in September in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
