The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Center for the Interaction of Computer Networks Internet eXchange (MSK-IX), which manages third-level domains org.ru, net.ru and pp.ru, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Combating the Dissemination of Illegal Information. Director Andrey Vorobyev signed the document on behalf of the Coordination Center, and Alexei Platonov, Director of MSK-IX, signed for MSK-IX.
The memorandum provides for cooperation and interaction in countering the improper use of the internet such as spamming, phishing, child pornography, botnets and other malicious activity. Cooperation between the parties will be based on their shared approach to developing rules that prevent abuse, cooperating with competent Russian organizations with expertise in abuse, and empowering them to issue recommendations to domain name registrars.
“MSK-IX ensures stable and continuous operation of public domains of the third level, and the security of Russian internet resources is one of its priority tasks. The Coordination Center and MSK-IX have a long-standing partnership. We have vast experience and expertise in this area, and I am sure that the memorandum we signed will make the Runet an even more reliable and stable place,” said Andrey Vorobyev, director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.
The Coordination Center works with many companies and top-level domain registries on domain security and development. In February 2021, they signed a similar memorandum with Russian Institute for Public Networks (RIPN) that manages the .SU domain. In 2020, the Coordination Center signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Interaction on Combating Internet Abuse with the Operations and Analysis Center under the President of the Republic of Belarus – the .BY and .BEL registrar. Similar memorandums of understanding were already signed with the ccTLD registry of the Republic of Vietnam .VN, and China’s national domain registry .CN. The Coordination Center also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in Cybersecurity with the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development (FAITID), which manages .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА.
