Domain Patrol begins its watch

On August 13, Domain Patrol, a project of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ dedicated to cooperation between competent organizations and accredited domain registrars in .RU and .РФ, was launched. Data from the hotlines of all the competent organizations in cooperation with the Coordination Center as well as the hotline of the Russian Ministry of the Interior for internet fraud are published at tldpatrol.ru. Moreover, the website has the latest updates on the spread of cyberthreats and efforts to counter malicious resources.

Domain Patrol provides users with a way to quickly send information about a malicious resource to experts on the threat as well as news, advice, analytical materials, and research on security on the internet and in the .RU and .РФ domain zones.

Launching a specialized project, Domain Patrol, is another step by the Coordination Center to ensure the safe and stable work of the Russian domain space and the entire internet.

“We have aggregated information about all the hotlines of our competent organizations in our new project. Any user can report the unlawful use of a domain name to a hotline, so they don’t have to search for information on where to report cases of phishing and where to report fraud: all this information can be found at our website. It is almost like 911 but on the internet: Our 10 competent organizations will help immediately,” said Olga Baskakova, head of the Domain Patrol project.

The Coordination Center began cooperating with organizations authorized to detect violations on the internet in 2012. Competent organizations have all the necessary knowledge and skills to report websites with illegal content as well as phishing, unauthorized access to information systems and spreading malware from the domain names within .РФ and .RU. They have the right to require accredited registrars to terminate domain name delegation for such websites, and the registrars can terminate the delegation at their request.

As of now, the Coordination Center works with 10 competent organizations: the National Computer Incident Coordination Center, the Safe Internet League, Group-IB, Kaspersky Lab, RU-CERT, the Regional Public Center of Internet Technology (ROCIT), the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor), BI.Zone, the Central Bank of Russia and Dr. Web.
