We bring to your notice the first edition of the information journal “Internet Inside”. The idea of this publication came after the wave of success of Andrey Robachevsky’s book with the same name, which was presented at the MSK-IX Peering Forum last year. Our MSK-IX colleagues provided full support to this journal to be published and actively participated in its preparation. This journal is primarily intended for technical experts, but could also be interesting for everyone who has any relation to the Internet. “Internet Inside” introduces its readers to technologies, protocols and architecture of the global network and also helps to understand social and economic aspects of the Internet. The journal draws reader’s attention to the main directions of computer science, new technologies and developments, key events of global network’s life.
Yelena Voronina, Director at MSK-IX, who was one of the initiators and ideologists of the publication believes that it is necessary to make knowledge about new technologies and developments in the area of telecommunications available to non-specialist audiences. “It is important that experts are not confined to a shallow world of their zone of expertise. They should be able to see the whole spectrum of tendencies and problems, find out what is happening in the related fields, and look at what they do from another angle. We hope that our issue will assist them in this, there are famous Russian and foreign experts that will share their knowledge with our readers”, pointed out Yelena Voronina.
Chief editor Andrey Robachevsky said that evolution is the key topic of the first issue. “Internet is a kind of organism, ecosystem and this is why the term “evolution” is so accurate when we describe the development of this global system”, he writes in the preface to the journal. There are two articles about this in the issue: Jeff Houston talks about technological evolution in his paper “Mobile Internet” and Andrey Robachevsky talks about the origin of some of Internet coordination functions in his article “Evolution of IANA”.
A calendar of upcoming events in the world of IT and Internet as well as articles about past meetings and events in which authors of the journal took part is also published in the issue. Information journal is published on www.internetinside.ru.
