.XYZ Registry to Celebrate its 10th Anniversary Throughout the Year

The registry of the new generic top-level domain .XYZ is celebrating its first anniversary in a big way: the domain was included in the DNS root zone 10 years ago - June 2, 2014. On this occasion, the company announced a very generous promotion: the opportunity to register 2 domain names for the price of 1 cent. Of course, the domain zone is expected to grow rapidly, if only because it is simply impossible to register one domain name during the promotion.

However, such registrations, made in the midst of discounts and promotions, give only a temporary boost, since a significant part of the names registered in this way do not renew after a year. And .XYZ itself is an excellent example of this: at the dawn of its existence, it already offered registration for 1 cent - although not two names, but only one. As a result, by September 2016, there were more than 6.6 million registrations in the domain zone. And now their number is less than 4 million, reminds the Domain Gang  when reporting this news.

However, this indicator is quite good and allows the domain to take first place in the popularity rating of new generic top-level domains. And its registry is to give very generous gifts not only to new registrants, but also to itself: the company acquired and branded the Tesla Cybertruck - a futuristic pickup truck whose cost starts at about $80,000. Head of Registry Daniel Negari eagerly poses behind the wheel of the car, explaining that its design is consistent with the values of the .XYZ domain, the main one of which is a focus on the future. Negari also generously gives out interviews, in one of which he has already stated that the celebrations on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of .XYZ will last a whole year - until June 2025. However, he did not specify whether this also applies to the “two domains for 1 cent” promotion.
