Germany becomes leader in using dot-brand domains

Dot-brand domains frequently appear in the news when a company surrenders its assigned domain name due to a lack of use. So, it’s refreshing to hear positive news for a change. According to Domain Incite, the number of names registered in brand domains of German companies has reached 10,000. With just over 21,000 registrations in brand domains at the moment, Germany leads the world in dot-brand domain utilization.

In Germany, the financial company Deutsche Vermögensberatung (DVAG) tops the rating with its .DVAG brand domain, boasting over 7,500 registered names. Alongside hosting several corporate websites, each financial consultant affiliated with the company has their personalized domain name in the format “firstname-lastname.dvag.” These domains redirect visitors to the consultants’ pages on the main site at dvag.de.

Following closely is the automotive giant Audi, a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, with over 1,700 domain names registered under .AUDI. These domains power a network of model-specific websites, dealerships, and individual dealers nationwide. Additionally, other notable players like BMW and the retail giant Schwarz Gruppe, which owns the Lidl store chain, are actively expanding their presence with brand domains.
