Blockchain Startup will Participate in the Next Phase of the New Domains Program

Las Vegas-based startup D3 Global announced that it has raised $5 million in seed funding. Funds will be used to participate in the next phase of the New Generic Top-Level Domains program, which could start, presumably in 2025. The Head of D3 Global is the entrepreneur Fred Hsu, who once created the Oversee.net service. Also among the founders of the startup are Paul Stahura, one of the founders of Donuts (now Identity Digital) and Shayan Rostam, who was part of the management of Uniregistry. All of them have vast experience of very successful work in the domain industry, and therefore their current initiative certainly deserves attention, states Domain Incite, reporting this piece of news.

It is extremely noteworthy that the new company declares its goal to “bridging the gap between traditional and blockchain domains.” It intends to apply for the right to operate traditional new generic top-level domains and "ensure their interoperability with domain systems using blockchain technology." How exactly this interaction will be provided is currently unknown. In addition, the company plans to create a trading platform for both traditional and blockchain domains. It is assumed that the use of blockchain technologies will significantly increase the transparency of operations, the absence of which is a generally recognized weak point of most such platforms. Given, to put it mildly, ICANN's wary attitude towards blockchain domains, it will be very interesting to know how the fate of D3 Global will turn out.
