The domain name, which was acquired for $2.2 million, is being phased out by its purchaser

In 2000, there was a deal registered to sell the Coupons.com domain. It was purchased for $2.2 million, the third largest deal in the history of the industry at the time. The domain was acquired by a company that immediately changed its name to Coupons.com. As you might guess, its business was based on the distribution of coupons for discounts - a very popular business model in the West in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

But since then, the world has gone far ahead, paper coupons have long given way to cashback programs and mobile applications. In 2015, Coupons.com also changed its name, renaming itself Quotient Technology. Now, apparently, she doubts the advisability of further use of the Coupons.com domain. This news is reported by the Domain Incite, citing a report filed by the company with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. It says that Quotient Technology intends to "retire" the Coupons.com domain name by moving business activity to a mobile application.

Highly likely, this should mean that the company will try to sell its domain. But whether she will be able to find a buyer for adequate money in an era when a significant part of users already poorly understand what coupons are is a big question.
