On December 6-12, the Domain Marathon – a series of specialized events for domain industry companies and experts – will take place as part of the 13th Russian Internet Week with the support of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. The events will be held in the Smart City Pavilion at VDNKh and online.
The program includes:
- online lectures;
- offline events from a studio streamed online;
- broadcasts of video interviews in Smart City.
The following events will take place offline:
December 6, 12:30pm – 2:30pm
- section “History of internet internalization, or when Russian users will be able to work completely in Russian on the internet”;
- award ceremony for winners of the DOT Journalism 2021 contest.
Participants in the Domain Marathon will learn what universal acceptance is, discuss technical aspects of implementing internationalized services on the internet, talk about how the internet address space has changed over the last 10 years, and consider which international initiatives in the sphere of internet identifier internationalization development and universal acceptance are trending now. Speakers at the section will include Maria Kolesnikova, Chair of the Universal Acceptance Steering Group; Vadim Mikhailov, Поддерживаю.РФ Technical Consultant; and Mikhail Anisimov, ICANN Head of Global Stakeholder Engagement for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
In addition, the participants in the Domain Marathon will have a unique chance to meet the winners of the DOT Journalism 2021 contest: journalists writing about domains and the domain space.
December 7, 12:30pm – 3pm
- section “Countering threats on the net 2021: Meeting with competent organizations”;
- award ceremony for winners of the Фотодомен.РФ contest.
Countering malicious content and abuse of the domain name system, as well as the most interesting case histories of cooperation between competent organizations and registrars, will be discussed at the annual meeting between accredited Russian TLD registrars and registries and the organizations the Coordination Center lists as competent at identifying abuse on the internet.
On the same day, the award ceremony will be held for winners of the Фотодомен.РФ contest, where users who showed their interest in Cyrillic domains and demonstrated their creative approach will receive their well-earned prizes.

- interviews to mark the 20th anniversary of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.
The Domain Marathon will take place as part of the Russian Internet Week, RIW 20/21: https://2021.russianinternetweek.ru/. RIW 20/21, the industry’s main winter event, will include dozens of events and projects held in one week, from Monday to Sunday, at several venues and in various formats that will be interesting for specialists in different areas and with various levels of training, as well as all players, experts and participants in the digital economy ecosystem.
“Over the 13 years of its history, the Russian Internet Week has become the largest industry event, which draws great interest from both internet market and IT industry experts and ordinary users. Last year, we had to cancel RIW due to pandemic-related restrictions, and we were looking forward to finally talking with our partners, friends, colleagues and everyone interested in this topic. The forum is organized by the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC). The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ is its organizational partner. The event is part of the Year of Science and Technology (ГодНауки.рф), with support from specialized ministries and agencies, as well as players on the Russian internet market.
