EURid retains the right to manage .EU

The non-profit organization EURid, which manages .eu, will continue to operate the registry, according to its official website. Previously, with the current contract set to expire, the European Commission called for tenders for the right to manage the domain zone. In addition to EURid, the Estonian Internet Foundation, which is the registry for the Estonian ccTLD .EE, applied. The Open Registry (TORA) and the European Network Information Center (EU NIC) also filed applications. Both of them were registered in Luxembourg at the end of last year and, apparently, with only one purpose – to put in an offer.

However, few doubted the results of the tender process. EURid has been running the merged European domain for over 15 years and does so at the highest level. The new contract will be valid until October 2027. “We will continue working at the highest standard and look forward to ensuring the .eu value for all Europeans,” Marc Van Wesemael, CEO of EURid, said.
