Entrepreneur Michael Laskow intends to sell Taxi.com, a domain name he acquired in 1995 and on which he built his company, Taxi. The funny fact is that his company has nothing to do with passenger transportation. Laskow is a music producer, and his company helps musicians and composers establish partnerships with concert agencies, recording studios, filmmakers, TV series, etc.
Taxi is doing well, and Michael Laskow never planned on selling the domain, although he received offers all the time. But when he received a $6 million offer, Laskow realized it was time to act. Rather than accepting the offer, Laskow hired leading domain brokers Mark Thomas of VIP Brokerage and John Mauriello of Domain Assets telling them to sell the domain name for the highest price possible. Thomas and Mauriello are top-class professionals; this year alone, they arranged the sale of Christmas.com for $3,150,000, and have collectively brokered more than $300 million in domain name sales.
The brokers believe Taxi.com could be one of the biggest domain sales of all time, according to Globe Newswire. There is good reason to believe it will, because “taxi” is one of the few unique universal words that mean the same thing in nearly every language in the world. In addition, leading technology companies are actively working to launch driverless cars, including taxis, and this promises a huge influx of investment in the taxi business. As of today, the largest “clean” domain deal (that is, involving only the domain name proper, without any additional assets of the seller) is the sale of Voice.com for $30 million. It will be extremely interesting to see if Taxi.com outperforms it.
