US authorities seize 33 Iranian media domains

The US government took control of 33 domain names that were previously used for the websites of Iranian TV and radio stations. When you enter any of these domain names in the address bar, you are directed to a notification page about the seizure of the domain names at the request of the Department of Justice. According to the authorities, the sites in the domains served to spread disinformation and promote terrorism, Domain Incite reported.

One of the seized domains, presstv.com, was used by an Iranian state-owned station and broadcast news reports in English and French. All the domains were registered by the Iranian Islamic Radio and Television Union, which the Department of Justice said is controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, designated as a terrorist organization in the US. The domain name registrars were companies outside the United States, but all the domains are registered in .COM, .NET and .TV, managed by the US company Verisign, to which the seizure order was sent.
