Hong Kong UDRP Arbitration Center wins its own UDRP

Domain Name Wire reported a curious incident: Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC) filed a complaint under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) against HKIAC.org.cn. HKIAC uses HKIAC.org as its domain, and until recently, it also managed HKIAC.org.cn. But on February 24, 2020, the registration expired and was not renewed, most likely due to an oversight on the part of the center’s staff. A new registrant hastened to take advantage of the slip-up.

The irony is that HKIAC is a court that hears UDRPs. But it is clear that in this case, the International Arbitration Center could not hear a complaint about a domain it used to own, so it filed the UDRP with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). After the hearing, the panelists decided to return HKIAC.org.cn to the center.
