Shop.app domain sold for $200,000

Last week, a major domain deal was made: the Shop.app domain name was purchased for $200,000 at Sedo. This is one of the five greatest deals made since the beginning of 2020 and one of the top ten biggest deals in new domains for the entire history of their existence. The domain was registered in May 2018 during the Early Access Period announced by Google, the registry of the new gTLD .APP. During that time, registrants were able to be the first to register premium domain names by paying a higher price. The one-year registration cost $12,500 on top of the premium registration fee, and the registrant had to pay $2,000 twice to renew the registration. Thus, $16,500 was spent on the domain name, and the profit of $183,500 is definitely an impressive result.

The name of the lucky investor is unknown, information about them is confidential. What is known, however, is that the Shop.app was purchased by Shopify, the developer of software for online and retail stores. The company has already bought the Shopapp.com domain name.
