ICANN 73 to be held in Puerto Rico

The ICANN Board has selected the venue and dates of ICANN 73 (officially called a public meeting). According to Domain Incite, will take place in San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, on March 5-10, 2022, which makes San Juan the third city ICANN has visited three or more times. Only Singapore with four meetings and ICANN’s home city of Los Angeles with six have hosted more ICANN conferences.

The last time the ICANN conference was held in San Juan was March 2018. The city was supposed to host ICANN 57 in 2016, but the meeting was moved to Hyderabad, India, because the Zika virus, a cause of international concern at the time, was spread in several Latin American countries. (Another meeting was moved from Panama to Finland that year.) ICANN 73 in San Juan will be the first conference in 2022. Before that, meetings will be held in Cancun (Mexico), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Hamburg (Germany) in 2020, followed by Cancun again, The Hague (the Netherlands), and Seattle (the US) in 2021.
