Self-regulation of the domain industry is an important issue for many countries


On 22-23 of February 73rd members meeting of the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD) that united almost 100 guests from different countries took place in Kathmandu (Nepal). Coordination Center for TLD RU/.РФ delegation took part in the meeting; Coordination Center’s experts spoke at several APTLD 73 sessions.

Andrey Vorobyev, CEO of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, talked at the session dedicated to cooperation between registries and registrars. He explained how CC develops policies for registrars, how the number of registrars changed throughout the years of CC’s work, and what difficulties they faced and how they were overcome. He also talked about self-regulation elements in managing Russian domain space and how registrars participate in the fight against illegal use of domains.

Irina Danelia, Deputy CEO of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, talked at the session dedicated to the issues of secondary domain market. Irina presented a new system of registering soon to be expired domains. Meeting attendees got to know the peculiarities of such system and learnt about the prerequisites of its creation. We remind that the Technical Center of Internet developed the registration system of soon to be expired domains in 2017; domain name registrars are testing it at the moment. The system gives registrars a possibility to register domain names that the clients pick right after the domain expires.

“The issues of industry’s self-regulation and rational use of domain space today have become especially important in all countries of the world, and we were happy to share our experience in these fields. It was very interesting to learn about the development of the domain market in Asian countries, to find out what issues are the most important ones for our friends and partners from Asia. All of us have a common goal to make the domain space accessible and safe for everyone. Such meetings help to achieve it”, summed up the work of APTLD 73 Andrei Vorobyev.
