Educate, educate, and educate further

On December 15, the Academy for Innovative Education and Development, with the support from the Union of Women of Russia, hosted a roundtable, Moral, Ethical, Psychological, and Pedagogical Guidelines for Artificial Intelligence Development in the Russian Federation. The event was dedicated to exploring the application of AI across various industries. Participants discussed the formation of a child’s identity, the preservation of national identity and traditional Russian values amid the expanding influence of AI on human activities, the threats AI poses to the media and information spheres, and the challenges it presents for future industries.

Olga Rubtsova, Rector of the Academy for Innovative Education and Development and Editor-in-Chief of the Vneshkolnik journal, outlined the roundtable’s strategic objectives: to initiate a substantive discussion on AI as both a practical tool and a potential threat in fields that shape personality, and to prepare a foundational framework for the AI section at the upcoming 10th anniversary Information Security and Children conference.

Olga Rubtsova emphasized that today it is essential to discuss not only the endless opportunities AI offers humanity as well as its potential threats, but also the ways AI can specifically benefit individuals, particularly those working with younger generations.

It is no coincidence that we are holding this roundtable jointly with the Union of Women of Russia – because who could be more concerned about how AI will shape our children’s future than us, as mothers?” she remarked.

Yekaterina Lakhova, President of the Union of Women of Russia, delivered opening remarks at the event. She highlighted the uniqueness and relevance of the topic, sharing a personal encounter with digital threats and noting the active use of deepfake and voice-generation technologies by fraudsters.

Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, spoke about the application of AI in the domain industry as well as about the Coordination Center’s projects aimed at enhancing digital literacy among students and educators.

Paraphrasing a well-known saying, I would say our primary task today is to educate, educate, and educate again – and not just students and teachers, but AI itself. A great example is our work on the digitalization of Russia’s indigenous languages – creating and promptly publishing high-quality content related to these languages online enables AI to learn and ultimately provide accurate and comprehensive responses to user queries,” Andrey Vorobyev noted.

The Director of the Coordination Center also discussed the use of AI for proactively identifying potentially malicious domains. AI-driven predictions help swiftly flag suspicious domain names registered by bad actors, reducing response times to incidents and potentially preventing them altogether in the future.

The roundtable discussion then focused on the negative and positive impacts of AI on younger generations, its use in the media space, and its role in ensuring national security.

In conclusion, the participants unanimously agreed that artificial intelligence is not merely a new technology but an environment where the consciousness of future generations will develop. The safety and future of the nation in this environment depend on the ability of the state and society to shape a balanced, forward-looking, and value-driven policy. The key outcome of the event was the shift from problem identification to formulating concrete, targeted, and actionable proposals spanning legislative, educational, technological, and awareness-raising spheres. The next step will be consolidating the efforts of all stakeholders to implement these initiatives in practice.
