On December 2, World Computer Literacy Day, staff from the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ conducted a Safe Internet Lesson for ninth-grade students at Moscow School No. 1002. The event was attended by 60 students.
Maria Kolesnikova, the Coordination Center’s Chief Analyst, opened the session by introducing the students to the Center’s work and provided a detailed overview of Russia’s national domains, .RU and .РФ. A lecture on safe online behavior was delivered by Data Analyst Yevgeny Pankov. Together with the students, he examined case studies of the most common cyber fraud schemes, including phishing and its variations – vishing (phone fraud), quishing (QR code phishing), and smishing (fraud via SMS and messaging apps). Yevgeny highlighted the warning signs of fake websites, messages, or calls and explained how to use the Whois service to identify domain names potentially involved in fraudulent activities. The lesson also covered personal data protection, the risks of communicating with strangers online, and how to recognize counterfeit websites. At the end of the lecture, Yevgeny invited the students to visit the Domain Patrol website to learn more about digital fraud and find hotline numbers for organizations specializing in cybersecurity at various levels.
To conclude, the most engaged participants took part in a quiz hosted by Viktoria Bunchuk and Yevgeny Pankov, answering questions about computer hardware, online games, websites and services, gadgets, and devices. Winners received prizes from the Explore the Internet & Govern It! and Поддерживаю.РФ projects.
