On November 25, the Moscow State Institute of Culture (MGIK) hosted another research and practical seminar organized by the Academy of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, in collaboration with ARinteg, a developer of software and comprehensive information security solutions. Attendees included students from the Faculty of Library and Information Science as well as the Faculty of State Cultural Policy.
The seminar was led by Oleg Nesterovsky, Deputy Technical Director for Audit and Consulting at ARinteg. The expert provided a detailed overview of key aspects of personal data protection under Russian law, analyzed leakage risks, and proposed specific measures to enhance the security of internet users’ personal information.
According to Mr Nesterovsky, a significant majority of citizens express concerns about their online privacy. Surveys indicate that approximately 57 percent of respondents admit to lacking confidence in their ability to effectively safeguard personal data amid modern digitalization. The most frequent questions in this field concern practical steps to take when suspecting a data breach and methods for identifying fraudulent resources.
Among the recommendations shared by the expert were: using strong passwords and two-factor authentication; reviewing data processing consent forms and limiting the scope of shared information where possible; regularly updating software and operating systems while installing reputable antivirus programs; utilizing Incognito mode when accessing public networks; and promptly reporting suspicious account activity or unauthorized bank transactions to platform administrators.
Presentation: What is personal data, and how to protect it
The most engaged participants received practical prizes from the Coordination Center’s educational initiatives – Domain Patrol, Поддерживаю.РФ, and Digital Reality.
This event is part of the Coordination Center’s broader initiative to promote expertise in digital technology enforcement and enhance the digital literacy of Runet users. Viktoria Bunchuk, Head of Social Projects at the Coordination Center, invited students to participate in the IP&IT LAW research competition (applications accepted until February 1, 2026) and supplementary programs under the Study the Internet & Govern It mentor school.
