The ROST Supplementary Education Center hosted Safe Internet Lessons, organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ in collaboration with the Study the Internet & Govern It! project team. The educational event took place as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of St Petersburg’s School No. 667, where the Center operates.
Younger students attended an open lesson on digital literacy that was developed by Olga Golubeva, a supplementary education and robotics teacher and a graduate of the third season of the Study the Internet & Govern It! Mentor School, as part of her graduate project. During the classes, the teacher guided students through learning how to create strong passwords, avoid computer viruses, and adopt safe online practices while fostering responsible digital behavior.
Senior school students participated in an engaging board game, Study the Internet & Govern It!, competing against each other on a journey from a local server to the root via caching and NS servers. Throughout the game, they answered questions and solved logic puzzles, deepening their understanding of the web’s infrastructure and architecture.
The lessons concluded with a Study the Internet quiz, allowing students to reinforce their newly acquired knowledge and assess their level of digital literacy.
All participants received gifts, including stickers featuring the project’s mascot, the robot RUBI, as well as practical accessories suited to St Petersburg’s climate – socks, gloves, and rain ponchos.
“We were delighted by the invitation to the school’s celebration and enjoyed engaging with students – representatives of today’s most digitally native generation,” shared Viktoria Bunchuk, Head of Social Projects at the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. “Even elementary school students navigate modern technology with ease, confidently use apps, and understand the importance of strong passwords. Many are already passionate about Minecraft, dabble in programming, and some are seriously considering future careers in IT. Our event was not only educational but also exciting – the kids actively participated in discussions, asked questions, and had fun playing.”
Such initiatives aim to cultivate mindful attitudes toward the digital space among young users. The educators at ROST Center demonstrated high professionalism, continuously developing their own skills while motivating students to progress.
