The 14th Study the Internet & Govern It Digital Literacy Championship kicked off on September 10. The competitions will test the digital literacy of school and university students under 18, as well as their creativity. Individual contestants and entire teams can take part.
Registration lasts until November 11.
As usual, the championship is organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ in partnership with Rostelecom based on the Study the Internet educational project. The Reasonable Internet Fund (.ДЕТИ domain) provides information support for the event.
Two-stage competitions are envisioned. During the first stage, the contestants are given two creative assignments. First, they must post a news story about the championship, as well as design samples of souvenirs and other paraphernalia with a common concept and style for the Study the Internet and Govern It project. Participants can score up to 47,000 points for completing these assignments to the best of their abilities. Jury members will accept their submissions until November 11.
The second stage of the championship, the Multilingual Internet online tournament, is set to begin on November 12. While completing various assignments, young people can test their knowledge, learn about the role of the Russian language on the internet, the development of languages under the influence of digital technologies, the concept of Universal Acceptance, the correlation between multilingualism and cybersecurity, coding methods, as well as the history of the first and largest Cyrillic domain .РФ.
“This year, we have decided to update the traditional format of the online championship and to focus on the creative component. The participants will have their digital literacy level assessed, and they should also display their creativity by conceiving unique souvenirs for the Study the Internet & Govern It project,” said Viktoria Bunchuk, Head of Social Projects, Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. “We are convinced that young participants can suggest ideas that align with modern trends, and that can attract their peers. This is important for the project’s image and makes it more popular among young Runet users.”
The production of souvenirs is an effective marketing tactic because these items remain highly popular and help forge a positive perception of the brand, as well as increasing the number of project participants. Involving young people has a number of advantages: it prevents negative behavior online, expands their professional competences, enhances digital literacy and fosters a critical attitude. As a socially responsible organization, it is our mission to support the younger generation and create favorable conditions for tapping their potential.”
Apart from diplomas, the winners of the main and special categories will receive various prizes, including certificates from the Ozon e-commerce store and collections of e-books and audio-books from Litres and Alpina Publishers. The captains of the winning teams will receive additional prizes, including souvenirs from the Study the Internet project. All other participants who do not win will receive personalized online certificates confirming their participation in the 2025 Championship.
The results of the 14th Study the Internet & Govern It Digital Literacy Championship will be announced on December 4.
