The project team congratulated schoolchildren and students on September 1 by updating the content of its educational simulators and launching seven new educational modules at once.
First of all, the updates affected the central section: the Knowledge online game.
The Internet Governance module was completely redesigned and upgraded to the advanced level. The editor of the module was Anastasia Savelyeva, head of the Internet Governance Summer School of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and senior lecturer at the Department of Information Communication Systems of the Bonch-Bruevich St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications. By completing a puzzle, matching tasks, tests and crossword puzzles, users can learn about stakeholders and areas of internet governance, network architecture, as well as many interesting facts related to this important field.
Knowledge has also been expanded, adding a new educational module: Quantum World. It is dedicated to quantum technologies and is one of the most challenging in terms of theory, as it requires not only applied knowledge, but also advanced spatial thinking. By completing its tasks, players can learn about the history of quantum technologies, the contributions of scientists to their development, the principles of quantum computing and communications, as well as the creation of high-precision measuring devices. The exercises also let players examine a quantum computer and understand the amount of information it can process in seconds.
Five new modules have been added to the simulator for blind internet users. Two of them – Digital Medicine and Cyberbullying – were designed specifically for this section. The others – Internet of Things, Who Governs the Internet, and Digital State – were adapted from the Knowledge game for visually impaired users. In particular, the theoretical part was simplified, and the practical component reformatted into tests for better audio comprehension and more effective knowledge consolidation.
Let us recall that the Explore the Internet & Govern It project has been implemented since 2012 by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ with the support of Rostelecom. It is aimed at schoolchildren, students, and novice internet users of all ages. The project’s goal is to enhance digital literacy, broaden erudition, develop IT skills, and foster interest in IT careers in a playful format.
The project includes both online and offline tools, such as the Knowledge simulator, quizzes, training tests, a board game, comics, memos, online tournaments, and the IT Lesson educational event designer. Access to all simulators is free and unlimited, although some materials are available only after registering on the project website.
By the end of the year, the launch of a quest and an activity book with poems about the rules of safe behavior on the internet for children aged 6–9 is planned as part of the project Explore the Internet & Govern It.
