On August 6, representatives of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ teamed up with cybersecurity experts at a summer workshop for school and university students held by the Safe Internet League and the National Center for Helping Children.
Launched on August 4, the workshop’s summer session will run for two weeks. To take part in the event, candidates had to go through a selection process, which resulted in choosing 14 participants from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar and Primorye territories, Kaluga, Moscow, Tambov, Tula and Sverdlovsk regions, and Bashkiria.
This is already the third time for the Coordination Center at the Safe Internet League’s summer workshop. This year, Olga Baskakova, who works as project manager at the Coordination Center, talked about domain security with a focus on describing how content is accessed online and ways to restrict or deny access rights. She went on to describe what the Coordination Center is doing to ensure that Russia’s country-code domains .RU and .РФ stay safe, as well as the institution of competent organizations and the main types of cyberfraud. Olga mentioned a surge in online phishing over the past two years and explained ways to avoid the traps set by cybercriminals. The lecture also covered droppers and ways to counter them.
“This is already the third year for us at the Safe Internet League’s summer workshop. There are new students every year. They have chosen information security as their future profession. The fact that our trade has been so popular among them is quite positive since there is demand for new talent in information security across all economic sectors,” Olga pointed out.
After these lectures, Yevgeny Pankov, who heads special projects at the Coordination Center, held the Explore the Internet & Govern It! quiz for the participants so that they could test the knowledge they had received.
“Students loved the quiz, and they showed a high level of proficiency in terms of their digital literacy. I hope that we will continue taking part in the Safe Internet League’s summer workshop moving forward,” Yevgeny Pankov said.
