From June 9 to 12, Prague hosted the ICANN83 Policy Forum, which brought together 1,321 experts from 130 countries, with an additional 555 participants joining discussions online.
Over the four-day event, 99 meetings and thematic sessions took place, featuring active participation by experts from the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. Director Andrey Vorobyev and Deputy Director Irina Danelia attended sessions in person, while Infrastructure Consultant Vadim Mikhailov participated remotely in discussions on technical issues and domain space security. Chief Analyst Maria Kolesnikova spoke at a session marking the 10th anniversary of the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG) and outlining future implementation plans.
Key forum topics included: the 20th anniversary of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS); preparations for the launch of the second round of the New Generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) Program; and the 10th anniversary of the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG).
A major milestone of ICANN83 was the approval by the ICANN Board of the Policy on the Retirement of Country Code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs). Developed by the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO), this policy enables ccTLD registries to independently verify the validity of specific IANA decisions and, if necessary, challenge them or request clarification. The review mechanism will be available to both existing ccTLD registries and applicants for new ccTLDs. Implementation timelines and further details will be released in the coming months.
The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ closely monitored the forum and shared updates on its website and social media. Moreover, a comprehensive conference review is now available on the Center’s website, along with a photo report on VK.
The next forum, ICANN84, will take place October 25–30, 2025, in Muscat, Oman.
See you at the forum!
