Explore the Internet project celebrated at Children’s Art School

The interactive educational project Explore the Internet & Govern It marked its 13th birthday in the workplace – by holding a Safe Internet Lesson for young musicians, vocalists, dancers, artists and animators, co-organized with Dr.Web.

For reference, Dr.Web is a member of the Coordination Center’s information security projects Domain Patrol and Netoscope. A leading Russian anti-virus software developer, Dr.Web has the status of a competent company, which gives it the authority to identify and qualify domain abuse cases.

The lesson took place on May 23 at the Children’s Art School at the Moscow State Institute of Culture, hosted by the Department of Children’s Librarians.

During the interactive lecture, the speaker talked about the basics of safe communication online and the truth about virtual “friends,” while the participating children practiced identifying phishing attacks and tried safe search methods to find verified and useful information online.

After the lecture, delivered by Dr.Web’s PR manager Yekaterina Biryukova, the children played one of the Explore the Internet quizzes, where the competing teams answered questions to test their knowledge about websites and web services, computer structure and devices, online games, education, social media and instant messengers, and last but not least, online security. The quiz was conducted by Andrey Aleinikov, a public relations specialist and chairman of the Youth Council at the Coordination Center.

All participants received copies of Angelina Lisitskaya’s  book, A Trap for a CyberLoser, published with the support of Dr.Web, as well as useful souvenirs from the Explore the Internet project.

The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ will continue its cooperation with the Moscow State Institute of Culture in September, when Library Department students, who have completed internships at the Explore the Internet School of Mentors, will conduct a board game inspired on the project for their mentees at the Children’s Art School, to foster deeper knowledge about the internet, network culture, digital technologies and cybersecurity.
