Today, the project Explore the Internet & Govern It celebrates its 13th anniversary. It all began on May 23, 2012, with the first online championship featuring students from Moscow schools.
Now in its “teenage” years, the project has come a long way, evolving from a beginner-focused initiative into a comprehensive ecosystem that brings together diverse educational formats and valuable tools to enhance digital literacy and culture.
Today, the project continues to grow and evolve, reaching not only schoolchildren but also younger kids, users with disabilities, parents, teachers, students, and young professionals.
In addition to its core offerings – such as the online simulator Knowledge, quizzes, a digital dictionary, and tests – the project regularly introduces new interactive formats, including offline activities. These include the Explore the Internet board game, illustrated safety memos, and the comic book Imbalanced Error: How I Almost Lost Everything, which follows the adventures of the project’s mascot, the RUBI robot, and his protégé Andrey. This summer, the project is set to launch an exciting new quest powered by a Telegram bot.
By the way, the project team is marking its anniversary in a productive way, by hosting a Safe Internet Lesson at the Moscow State Culture Institute’s Children’s Art School in Khimki, in collaboration with partners from Dr.Web. A full report on the event will be shared in upcoming publications.
As a reminder, the project is carried out by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ with the support of Rostelecom.
