On May 20, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ held the 13th CC Academy literacy webinar hosted on the VK-platform Safe Information Environment for Children. During the livestream, specialists from the Coordination Center and the CC Academy’s partners discussed social and educational initiatives to improve digital literacy and culture, as well as issues that these projects are trying to address.
The guest speaker was Katya Guseva, art director of Multiways creative agency, who explained to the audience what a motion designer does and what stages creating flat and 3D graphics involves.
“It might not be immediately obvious why the Coordination Center would be interested in design – except, perhaps, as a consumer or client. Indeed, we often use the services of an illustrator or designer to create corporate gifts or develop corporate identity for various projects and events. For example, this year, we are celebrating 15 years of the national Cyrillic domain .РФ, and we certainly needed to develop a special style for that,” commented Viktoria Bunchuk, Head of Social Projects at the Coordination Center and the webinar presenter. “However, there is a connection. This year, the CC Academy launched Unlocking the Code, a program for boarding schools, orphanages, and small-class schools aimed at teaching students and their mentors the basics of programming. The course also includes career guidance lectures that introduce schoolchildren to a variety of opportunities for fulfillment in information technology. Katya was one of the speakers of the career guidance part. She was so successful that we asked her to repeat her lecture to a wider audience.”
Katya began her lecture with theory, explaining what motion design is and what techniques it uses – flat and volumetric graphics, frame-by-frame animation, and stop-motion. The next part was more practical, where she talked about each of the stages of creating an animated video, from the idea to adding sound effects and background music. She used the informational video from the Explore the Internet & Govern It project, designed by Multiways, to illustrate her explanations.
In the final part of the webinar, Katya Guseva answered questions from the audience such as whether artificial intelligence would put motion designers out of business, which of the new technologies modern animators use to facilitate routine processes, what schools offer motion design courses, and what type of animation could be the most promising.
