On May 12, 2025, the .РФ domain marks its 15th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, a series of hybrid-format events will take place at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. Join the celebration by tuning in to the live broadcast!
The round table titled Cyrillic on the Internet: The .РФ Domain as a Symbol of the Russian Language’s Global Relevance will feature prominent speakers, including Tatyana Matveyeva, Chief of the Presidential Directorate for the Development of Information and Communication Technology and Communication Infrastructure, Sergey Boyarsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, Alexander Shoitov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, and Mikhail Seslavinsky, Chairman of the Council of the National Union of Bibliophiles. The round table will focus on the role of the Cyrillic alphabet in the digital space, the development of Russia’s national internet segment, digital sovereignty, and supporting the Russian language online.
The program will also feature a ceremonial cancellation of a commemorative postcard honoring the first Cyrillic domain, .РФ. Issuing special postcards and postage stamps to mark key milestones in the history of the Russian domain space has become a tradition. In 2015, a postcard celebrating the registration of the five-millionth .RU domain name was released. This was followed in 2019 by a jubilee stamp marking the 25th anniversary of the .RU domain, and in 2024, a commemorative postcard was issued to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
The events at the Civic Chamber will conclude with the signing of a Memorandum on the Development of Internet Addressing Tools in the State Language of the Russian Federation. This document reaffirms the commitment of key stakeholders in the internet industry to support and advance Cyrillic domains – particularly the .РФ domain – as well as other addressing tools in Russian, the state language of the Russian Federation. Signatories include representatives of Russian top-level domain registries, founding organizations of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, leading Russian internet security companies, universities promoting the Russian language online, and other institutions that contribute to the development and operation of Russia’s national internet segment.
