An event marking 30 years of Uzbekistan’s country-level domain .UZ took place on April 29, 2025, in Tashkent. During the anniversary conference, representatives of registries, international organizations and the expert community discussed key issues of domain industry development and the internet infrastructure.
The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ was actively involved in the event’s business program. Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev, Chief Analyst Maria Kolesnikova and Infrastructure Consultant Vadim Mikhailov spoke at the forum sessions.
During the second session, focused on technological advancements in domain naming and internet infrastructure, experts discussed the technical aspects of domain addressing systems, the technology employed by TLD registries, and potential cybersecurity threats and countermeasures. Vadim Mikhailov shared insights into building and developing a highly secure and stable infrastructure for Russia’s country-level domains, .RU and .РФ, amid rising traffic and escalating threats. He delved into the technical nuances of domain name registration architecture and the domain addressing system for .RU and .РФ, highlighting measures to ensure fail-safe operation, stability, and security of infrastructure.
“Over the past five years, we have undergone a complex process of systematic implementation of the Russian data deposit system, the Russian backup registration system, and a proprietary autonomous monitoring system for critical registration functions. This will enable building a stable, resilient, and secure infrastructure for the ccTLDs .RU and .РФ that would be safeguarded against virtually any contingency,” Vadim shared.
The third session explored promotion strategies for the domain industry, hosting services, and broader internet services. Participants discussed current digital marketing trends and the role of domain names and hosting in branding and online visibility. Coordination Center’s Chief Analyst Maria Kolesnikova spoke about approaches to marketing in the domain industry and promoting the ccTLDs .RU and .РФ.
Maria Kolesnikova noted that the Coordination Center pays particular attention to initiatives aimed at increasing the visibility of country-level domains, develops useful domain services for end users and pursues projects to improve digital literacy.
“It is important that the ccTLDs be associated with reliability, accessibility, and security. It is exactly what we seek when we launch our marketing initiatives,” Maria said.
Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev was a speaker at a session titled Technological Frontiers, where he spoke about new trends in the global network, associated threats, and also covered the role of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the domain industry.
He elaborated on automated tools used in phishing detection and emphasized that, when encountering a phishing page, it is often unclear whether it was created for malicious purposes or compromised from its legitimate owner.
“Automated malware detection tools enable cybersecurity experts to respond more quickly. This is particularly crucial when identifying hijacked pages as opposed to those created specifically for illegal activities,” Andrey Vorobyev noted.
A delegation from the Coordination Center extended congratulations to their .UZ counterparts on the domain’s anniversary and praised its advanced infrastructure, openness to international cooperation, and substantial contribution to global internet stability and growth. Director Andrey Vorobyev said that the Coordination Center would like to continue this partnership and invited a delegation from the UZINFOCOM single integrator for the creation and support of state information systems (the .UZ registry) to attend the 15th anniversary of the Cyrillic domain .РФ.
