Online safety: Public speech for creative arts students

On March 21, a public speech on Online Safety: More than Virus was held at the Theater Arts and Technical College. It was organized by the college jointly with the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Explore the Internet & Govern It! project.

Experts of the Coordination Center, F6, Kaspersky Lab, and Avito took part in the event. The speakers tried to outline the internet dangers for students and also taught them, as part of the interactive lecture series, to avoid being tricked by scammers.

The event started with a lecture on how to register a domain without problems delivered by Georgy Georgiyevsky, Head of the Registrar and User Relations Department of the Coordination Center. He explained what domains were and what dangers may be associated with website names, and also suggested what to do if there are doubts about the origin of a webpage.

In his lecture Phishing Today: How to Remain Dry in the Sea of Internet Scam, F6 Cybersecurity Consultant Sergei Zolotukhin spoke about the latest threats and risks in the online space, including well-known hacks and account thefts, as well as advanced and hybrid hacker schemes.

The topic of latest cyberfraud trends was continued by Andrei Sidenko, leading content analyst, RnD at Kaspersky Lab, who talked about criminals using artificial intelligence to fake data, and also taught students how to distinguish generated, fake materials from real ones.

The series concluded with a report given by Nikita Palyokha, public relations specialist, Avito Trust and Security. He explained to the students the basics of smart online shopping and showed what fraudulent schemes were used in online shopping and sales.

After each lecture, students and experts discussed any questions they had and took part in thematic short quizzes. Active listeners received gifts: souvenir sets from the Explore the Internet & Govern It! project.
