This year’s edition of Explore the Internet & Govern It, the 13th nationwide online championship for high school and university students, closed on November 25.
This year’s event brought together 5,600 participants representing 35 regions of Russia. The biggest number of applications came from Moscow and the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, as well as Bashkiria, Komi, Tatarstan, the Altai, Krasnodar and Khabarovsk territories, the Chelyabinsk, Rostov and Tyumen regions. Five hundred participants formed 114 teams to compete as groups.
During the two-stage competition, both individual participants and teams were asked to complete several creative assignments (infographics about the best .ДЕТИ website, news stories and social media posts about the tournament), as well as fulfill 28 interactive online tasks that focused on the Domain Name System and 30th anniversary of the Runet.
As before, the 2024 edition of the championship was organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ with the support of Rostelecom.

“This year marked the anniversaries of two Russian TLDs: .RU turned 30 years old, and .ДЕТИ turned 10. Taking advantage of this coincidence, we decided to dedicate this year’s championship to internet addressing. Judging by the results, most of the participants were only vaguely familiar with the subject, as none of them could score the maximum number of points this year, and many gave up on the tasks halfway. However, there is no reason to be upset about the results. On the contrary, they highlighted the aspects where young people have obvious gaps, indicating the kind of content we need to add to the Explore the Internet & Govern It project and other educational initiatives. In addition, we have had an idea to design a series of posters on network hierarchy and architecture for high school classrooms,” Head of the Coordination Center’s Project Department Olga Yakovleva commented. “At the same time, despite the complicated assignments, one of the leaders is Karina Khamiyeva, who was only 4th last year, and the top five teams included a two-member team, while the limit was five members. In other words, we see that the result was not determined by the quantity, but rather by the quality of knowledge and perseverance during preparation.”
The winners will receive diplomas and valuable prizes – gift certificates of the OZON marketplace or the Litres e-book and audiobook service. The captains of the winning teams will also receive certificates from Reg.ru for registering a .ДЕТИ domain and creating a website using the company’s website builder in the next three months.
The rest of the participants can download an Explore the Internet & Govern It digital certificate with their names in their personal account.
