On November 22, experts from the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ presented lectures to students at the Department of Electronic Data Exchange Technologies of the Russian Association of Networks and Services (RANS) at the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics (MTUCI).
Olga Baskakova, Project Manager at the Coordination Center, met with third-year undergraduate students from the School of Networks and Communication Systems, majoring in Information Security and Communications. As part of the course on ensuring trust and security in the use of information and communication technologies, she delivered a lecture on domain security in Russia and the world in its key aspects She explained the structure of the DNS system, the role of the Russian registry in ensuring security, and the way it worked with the competent authorities and registrars when blocking malicious domains in the Russian section of the internet. Ms. Baskakova also provided detailed information about various types of phishing, and demonstrated several common scams.
Maria Kolesnikova, Chief Analyst at the Coordination Center and Head of the Russian Working Group on Universal Acceptance, delivered a lecture on the internationalization of URLs and the principles of Universal Acceptance (UA) to fourth-year students from the School of Cybernetics and Information Security at MTUCI. Ms. Kolesnikova introduced students to the structure of email and domain addressing and discussed multilingualism on the internet and the principles of Universal Acceptance of non-Latin domains and email addresses. She emphasized the importance of developing the internationalization of domain addressing and discussed international and Russian initiatives to implement UA.
At the end of her lecture, Maria Kolesnikova invited all students to participate in the youth programs of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, including the Internet Governance Summer School, the Coordination Center Youth Council, and others.
“Educational work is one of the main social tasks of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, and experts from the Coordination Center regularly meet with MTUCI students, cooperating with MTUCI and RANS to train future IT professionals. Safe use of domain addressing and in-depth knowledge of internationalized addressing are what every modern IT specialist must know. We will hold more meetings of this kind with MTUCI students and at other universities,” Maria Kolesnikova pointed out.
