Artificial Intelligence may become New Trend for Domain Industry

On September 23-24, the XXIII Forum "Regulation in the Sphere of Infocommunication Technologies" (SPECTR-2024) was held in Sochi. The Forum brought together leading experts - representatives of government bodies, professional public organizations, the telecommunications industry and Internet business. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ acted as the Gold Partner of the Forum.

Greetings to the Forum participants were sent by the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Sergey Kiriyenko, the Chief of Staff of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko and the Head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev.

Sergey Kiriyenko noted the importance of mobilizing efforts to ensure the information and technological sovereignty of Russia. "In the conditions of the information war, the importance and reliability of information and technological sovereignty are undeniable. To reduce the negative impact on information infrastructures, the state and business are working ahead of the curve. Threats are identified and necessary measures are taken, including at the legislative level,” he said.

Roskomnadzor Director Andrey Lipov also addressed the opening ceremony. He noted a number of areas in the industry that require increased attention. These include an increase in the number of cases of fraud and terrorism in communication networks, attacks on information infrastructure to destabilize key information systems and steal data, increasing pressure in the area of distribution of illegal content, and threats to national security associated with the development of multi-satellite space systems.

“Today, it is necessary to take the most responsible approach to ensuring the security of the information infrastructure. Only through joint efforts can we create a safe information institution for citizens and the state. I hope that all key challenges in the industry will be considered within the framework of the forum, and the necessary solutions will be developed based on the results,” Andrey Lipov said.

Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev took part in the session “Information Security of Communication Networks”. He spoke about the measures taken to ensure the security of users of the national domains .RU and .РФ, and the protection of elements of the critical infrastructure of the Runet. The Director of the Center emphasized the importance of effective interaction between the Center’s experts, competent organizations and registrars within the framework of the Domain Patrol, which allows for the prompt identification and blocking of malicious domains.

Andrey Vorobyev also presented the possibilities of using AI for national registries and new trends in the development of domain addressing. He noted that AI is capable of identifying malicious domain registrations, detecting phishing sites and making decisions on the maliciousness of resources, which significantly speeds up and facilitates the work of cybersecurity specialists. In addition, AI can be used to select domain names, support users and solve various marketing and analytical tasks.

"New technologies bring both new opportunities and risks. It is important to develop these technologies considering ethical standards and ensure security in order to minimize potential threats. And discussing these issues at the level of society, business and governments is necessary for a safe future," Andrey Vorobyev said.
