Coordination Center Participates in Global Internet Governance Forum

The 19th annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2024) is going to be held from 15 to 19 December 2024 in a hybrid format with in-person participation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as well as online.

This year's topic of the Forum is "Building our Multi-stakeholder Digital Future." IGF 2024 will focus on four themes:

  • Harnessing innovation and balancing risks in digital space
  • Enhancing the digital contribution to peace, development, and sustainability
  • Advancing human rights and inclusion in the digital age
  • Improving digital governance for the Internet We Want

The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ will take part in the Forum: the program includes two sections proposed by the Youth Council of the Coordination Center together with the School of International Information Security of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry. One of the sections will be devoted to digital twins. The section will discuss issues related to digital traces, technologies for digitizing personality (such as chatbots and avatars in metaverses), the ethics of interaction with digital twins, as well as legal aspects of processing, storing and using data on digital twins.

The topic of the second section with the participation of the Youth Council of the Coordination Center will be personal sovereignty on the network. Participants will talk about the use of personal data, and will also try to find out whether decentralized projects (such as, for example, Solid by one of the founding fathers of the Internet Tim Berners-Lee) will give users more control over their data.

Several more Russian sections will be held with the participation of the Center for Global IT-Cooperation, including:

  • a section on the implementation of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) standards in the cybersecurity environment;
  • a section focusing on the countries of the Global South and the impact of the Global Digital Compact on the development of technologies in them;
  • a workshop on Internet of bodies technologies and how they can affect not only innovations in medicine, but also human psychology;
  • a section on the ethical side of AI technologies and their use to manipulate information flows;
  • a section dedicated to telecommunications infrastructure in the Arctic and the prospects for the development of the region as a technology hub;
  • a networking session on the creation of a new Friends for Leadership branch – Friends for Internet – to support projects of participants from the countries of the Global South to improve the Internet and develop a safe digital space for all.

Also, a workshop by Kaspersky Lab with the participation of the Alliance for Child Digital Protection ‒ which will be dedicated to cooperation in the field of creating a safe online space for the younger generation with the participation of all stakeholders: from the state to tech giants ‒ will be held within the framework of IGF 2025.

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a global multi-stakeholder platform that facilitates the discussion of public policy issues related to Internet Governance.

Participation in the forum is free, registration for IGF2024 is open.
