On September 19, APTLD 86 hosted a session devoted to the impact of AI on national registries – “In Search of a New Way of Thinking: AI and How It impacts ccTLDs?” Vadim Mikhailov, a consultant for infrastructure at the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, spoke at the session.
Vadim spoke about the possibilities of using AI in the work of registries. Among such possibilities, he named proactive detection of malicious domain registrations, creation of an infrastructure for analyzing cyber threats, implementation of virtual assistants for technical support, and development of analytical tools for marketing campaigns.
“AI is a tool that can be used for both evil and good. Today, our common task is to ensure that this tool serves the benefit of both national registries and all users of the global network,” Vadim Mikhailov said.
He also shared the experience of the Coordination Center’s participation in the retraining programs for MAI students in the areas of “Applied Tasks and Frameworks for Machine Learning and Big Data Analysis” and “Intelligent Technical Systems.” As a final assignment, students, under the guidance of Center’s experts, developed software products using AI algorithms that allow identifying domain names, URLs, email addresses, social media nicknames, phone numbers, and user IDs in messengers in an array of text information, and then converting them into hyperlinks.
On September 20, the APTLD 86 conference ends its work. The next conference of the Asia-Pacific Top-Level Domains Association APTLD 87 will be held in February 2025 in Hong Kong.
