On September 4, in advance of the start of the 17th International Conference of Registrars and Registrars of the CIS, Central and Eastern Europe (TLDCON 2024), Conference speakers will deliver their lectures to students of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR).
Head of the Department for Work with Registrars of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Georgy Georgievsky will give a lecture on "The Global Domain Addressing System: Who Manages the DNS". He will talk in detail about what top-level domains are and for what purposes they are created, share information about the hierarchy of the domain name system, the differences between domains and sites, and explain how registries work and what systems ensure the reliability of DNS.
Global Stakeholder Engagement Sr. Manager for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at ICANN Mikhail Anisimov will introduce BSUIR students to issues of protecting the global domain name system from abuse. Mikhail will consider in detail various types of abuse and effective methods of combating them, and will also talk about the key participants in this process and the tools they use to prevent and neutralize threats.
Director of the Coordination Center for TLD TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev noted that lectures by TLDCON speakers have already become a good tradition. “For students, this is a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the structure of the Internet and the addressing system, learn about current trends and network security issues from leading experts. For us, this is a chance to pass on our experience and knowledge to the younger generation,” he said.
