The Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) became a participant in the Priority 2030 program in 2022. A “digital department” was created on the basis of MAI, within the framework of which a set of additional professional retraining programs for university students was developed. MAI students in engineering and information fields study in retraining programs; participation in the programs is possible starting from the second year in the main educational programs of bachelor's, master's and specialty degrees.
The programs provide practical training for students and their solution of current problems in the field of information technology. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ as a partner of MAI provided a practical case study “Processing text data based on AI to identify internationalized Internet identifiers and convert them into hyperlinks.” The case was used as a final assignment for students in the retraining programs “Applied problems and frameworks for machine learning and big data analysis” and “Intelligent technical systems”. The main goal of these programs is the development of digital competencies and in-depth training of MAI students in the field of modern information technologies.
To solve the case, students had to develop application solutions using AI technologies and take into account the features of working with Cyrillic domain names and email addresses. As a result of the teamwork of MAI students, libraries were successfully developed to identify internationalized Internet identifiers and convert them into hyperlinks. While working under the guidance of experts from the Coordination Center, students developed software products using machine learning algorithms that made it possible to identify domain names, URLs, email addresses, social network nicknames, phone numbers, user IDs in instant messengers, etc. in an array of text information. even if they contain errors or typos, and then convert them into hyperlinks. In total, 41 MAI students took part in solving the case; all the students successfully defended themselves.
“It was a very interesting experience both for us and for the students themselves. As a result, we received software products that, after minor modifications, can be used to solve current practical problems of universal adoption of internationalized Internet identifiers in all information ecosystems. In many ways, the fresh perspective on the problem that young people specializing in information technology have played a role. We plan to continue to participate in similar programs and involve students and young professionals in solving practical problems,” Maria Kolesnikova, chief analyst of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and project curator from the Center, said.
Let us remind you that in 2023, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Moscow Aviation Institute signed a Cooperation Agreement. The cooperation concerns the implementation of joint educational programs in the field of IT technologies and research activities, the preparation and conduct of additional professional retraining programs within the framework of the “digital department” of MAI, career guidance for students of the MAI Pre-University Center, the organization of master classes and other events.
