Today the Russian ccTLD .РФ turns 14 years old. .РФ was delegated to Russia in 2010 and became the world's first Cyrillic domain. More over 240,000 domains were registered on the first day of open registration in .PФ zone, and around 70,000 during the first month. To date, 776,000 names are registered there, and .РФ remains the largest Cyrillic domain zone!
There are 131 accredited registrars and more than 326,000 administrators working with domains in .РФ zone, and more than 500 new domains are registered in .РФ every day. 91.3% of domains in .РФ zone are registered in Russia, 8.7% are registered abroad.
.РФ is showing strong growth. In 2023 alone, the domain grew by 92,769 domain names or 13.7%, which is an extremely high figure for national internationalized domains.
In 2020, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ launched the project Поддерживаю.РФ, the website of which contains a Russian-language knowledge base on working with internationalized domain names (IDN) and email addresses (EAI). Over the 4 years of work, the project has gained popularity and has become a real flagship for the implementation of universal adoption of IDN and EAI not only in Russia, but also in the world.
