On Modern Information Security In “Study the Internet”

The "Study the Internet - Govern It" project's portal has been upgraded with gaming educational modules: the topic “Modern Information Security” has become available for study in an interactive form for project participants. The module is published in the “Knowledge” section - this is an online trainer that will help you learn about the history and structure of the Internet, digital services, technology, culture and economics through games. This form increases involvement in the educational process, and all kinds of mnemonics increase the efficiency of learning the material.

The new module “Modern Information Security” includes 5 games, each consisting of two parts: at the first stage, participants delve into the theory, and at the second, they consolidate their acquired knowledge using tests, crosswords, comparisons and constructors.

Thus, in a 100-point task, players will learn about basic terms related to digital information security by solving a crossword puzzle. In the game for 200 points, participants are asked to first become familiar with the signs of a computer being infected with malware, and then create a universal plan for saving equipment from infection.

In the next game block, the complex topic of cyberbullying is raised: the participant will have to learn what actions can be classified as “Internet Bullying,” how to protect themselves from such actions, and how not to harm others with your actions in the digital space.
In a task worth 400 points, the participant will look into the world of smart things that also need protection from malware. And the final game immerses you in augmented and virtual reality: by answering test questions and completing matching tasks, the player will learn about the risks of AR and VR, as well as learn the rules for the safe use of these technologies.

The author of the script for the module was Andrey Yarnykh, an independent information security expert, previously an employee of a large antivirus company for 22 years.

It should be noted that for the Safe Runet Week, which traditionally took place in early February, three more “Knowledge” modules related to cybersecurity were updated: “Confidentiality on the Internet”, “Protection of Personal Information. Personal Data" and "Malware". In particular, the information in the theoretical part of each module was updated, and bugs in the exercises were fixed.

Let us remind you that "Study the Internet - Govern It" is an educational project of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, implemented with the support of Rostelecom. It will help improve digital literacy, learn how digital technologies work, learn how to surf the Internet safely, and better navigate cultural and career trends in the IT field. Games in the “Knowledge” section are available to absolutely all users - to complete tasks, just log in or register on the project website.
