A regular meeting of the Domain Space Development Committee was held on December 8. Representatives of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, the largest Russian registries and the Internet Technical Center took part in the meeting.
Committee participants discussed plans for 2024, including the prospect of opening the registration of single-character and “premium” domains in .RU/.РФ, current sanctions policy in the domain space (in particular, recent decisions of the .INFO, .AERO domain zone registries) and additional methods for identifying administrators of .RU/.РФ to the Unified System of Identification and Authentication. We would like to remind you that a bill on domain names is currently being developed, which involves the use of Unified System of Identification and Authentication as the main tool for identifying and authenticating domain name administrators. We also paid attention to the recommendations for implementing support for internationalized domain names and email addresses in software, developed by the Russian Working Group on Universal Acceptance.
The Domain Space Development Committee was created in order to attract professionals in the field of Internet technologies to determine priority areas for the development of the Internet in the Russian Federation and coordinate the efforts of the Russian Internet community in this area. In addition to discussing technological issues, the Committee also assists in determining development vectors in the areas of economics, marketing, and GR.
