An extended meeting of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, dedicated to current problems of law enforcement practice in the IT field was held on October 25. The co-organizer of the meeting was IP CLUB. The event was moderated by Marina Rozhkova, Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee, President of IP CLUB.
Ekaterina Kalinicheva, partner, head of the practice of protecting intellectual property on the Internet at the law firm Semenov&Pevzner, spoke about the problems of obtaining data from copyright holders of domain names. She noted that one of the most pressing problems for lawyers involved in disputes related to the Internet is obtaining reliable data from site administrators, and this significantly complicates their work. Of course, this is related to legislation in the field of processing personal data, and, as Sergey Kopylov, deputy director for Legal Affairs of the Coordination Center, said, changing the approach of registrars and registries to providing personal data of administrators requires changes to the legislation.
Next, Olga Isaeva, intellectual property lawyer at Eyezon, head of the international cooperation department at IP CLUB, made a detailed review of judicial practice on the problems of legal protection of software.
A representative of the Commissioner under the President of the Russian Federation for the protection of the rights of entrepreneurs in the Internet, Dmitry Marinichev, took part in the discussion on the issues raised at the committee meeting. At the end of the meeting, he spoke positively about the event:
“The recent meeting of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, dedicated to current problems of law enforcement practice in the IT field, touched upon important and relevant topics.
