An introductory seminar of the 4th Summer School on Internet Governance was held on July 19. The programme, the training stages, the School's professionals, as well as the instruments that would be used in the learning process, were all introduced to the participants during the session by the organisers.
The participants of the Summer School were greeted and congratulated on passing the competitive selection by the Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev. He also spoke about the career trajectory of the School graduates: “Many graduates of our Summer School become active participants in projects related to Internet Governance, for example, the Youth Council of the Coordination Center. They offer ideas that are then brought to life: vivid examples are the discussion club "Digital Reality" and the School of International Information Security. And some graduates even come to the Summer School as curators and lecturers.”
A record number of 298 applications from 9 countries — Belarus, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan — were submitted this year to attend the School. The youngest applicant is 16 years old, the oldest one is 65 years old. At the same time, the majority of applications came from young people aged 16 to 35: students are in first place in terms of the number of applicants (143 applications), specialists are in second place (114 applications), and teachers and graduate students close the rating (41 applications). By gender, girls traditionally lead - more than 65% of applications came from them.
In 2020, 95 people became interested in participating in the 1st Summer School on Internet Governance. Since then, the number of applications has increased every year, and compared to 2022, the number of registrations has almost doubled.
Jurisprudence and law, international relations, information technology and information security are traditionally leading among the educational profiles and professional areas of applicants.
95 most motivated people were selected to participate in the Summer School 2023 (the selection was based on the results of the answers to the questions of the application form).
“Year by year, the number of applications submitted for participation in the selection is increasing annually, setting a new record every time. I would especially like to note that not only the number of applications is growing, but also the quality - this year there were many submissions with strong motivation. Naturally, such interest in the subject of Internet Governance and our Summer School is encouraging, even though the selection process was difficult and multi-staged. Students of School 2023 are active and interested specialists from different fields. I am sure that the experience of participating in the Summer School will allow graduates to take a fresh look at some aspects of their professional fields through a course program rich in relevant topics,” Anastasia Savelyeva, curator of the 4th Summer School on Internet Governance, said.
The Summer School on Internet Governance continues its work – stay tuned!
