Coordination Center experts give safe internet lessons at summer camps

On June 21 and 22, members of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ visited summer schools and camps in New Moscow. They conducted safe internet awareness sessions for 1-4 grade students at the Troitsk Science Town Gymnasia and Lyceum, as well as at the Baitik Foundation’s day camp.

Alexander Drozdov, Head of Special Projects at the Coordination Center, introduced the children to the principles of the internet, the basics of digital literacy and online safety rules. He explained how to safely use online services, what tricks scammers use and how to protect one’s data online.

After that, the children had a chance to participate in the Study the Internet & Govern It quiz. They answered most of the questions correctly, which showed a good understanding of internet technologies. But despite the strong competition, friendship won in the end. All participants of the quiz received prizes: the fascinating comic book Stepa's Adventure on the Internet and souvenirs from the Coordination Center.

“One of the missions of the Coordination Center is to promote digital literacy among the younger generation. Our specialists regularly conduct such lessons for children and teenagers. Recently, we completed a major educational project for high school students at the Barsukovskaya boarding school. Now we have also given safe internet lessons to younger schoolchildren. We are going to continue this initiative during the next academic year. We have secured agreements with the Troitsk administration to conduct safe internet lessons at several city schools on September 30, Russian Internet Day,” Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev said.
