Gorchakov Foundation Presented the Book "Digital International Relations"

Foundation for the Support of Public Diplomacy named after. A.M. Gorchakov held a presentation of the book "Digital International Relations", prepared by MGIMO as part of the implementation of the program of strategic academic leadership "Priority 2030" on June 16. The book was presented by Elena Zinovieva, Doctor of Political Science, Professor of the Department of World Political Processes, Deputy Director of the Center for International Information Security and Science and Technology Policy of the Institute of International Studies of the Moscow State Institute for International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. The authors of the book are leading scientists, diplomats and practitioners in the field of research on the impact of digitalization processes on modern international politics.

Elena Zinovieva held a presentation of the new edition. The speaker focused on the prospects and threats of using Big Data and Artificial Intelligence technologies in interstate interaction. She also compared the emergence of cyber technologies with the emergence of weapons of mass destruction: “Digital technologies are comparable in importance to the nuclear factor in the 20th century. Then there was a regime of control over these weapons and the rules for their regulation within the framework of international law. Just as Russia became a nuclear superpower in the last century, so today it remains one of the world leaders in the new digital field: we were the first to propose this topic for discussion at the UN.”

The Director of the Coordination Center foe TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev addressed the discussion dedicated to the release of the book. He noted the relevance of the publication in today's digital world. “This book serves as a textbook for classes on modern developments in digital international relations. The Coordination Center will recommend it for use during the Summer School on Internet Governance and special courses within the framework of the Russian and Youth Internet Governance Forums,” Andrey Vorobyev said.
