On May 19, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, with the support of the Digital Department and the Moscow Aviation Institute IT Center, held a meeting with university students dedicated to the birthday of the .РФ, the history and prospects of Internet internationalization, and the technical features of supporting Cyrillic domains and email addresses. The meeting was attended by students of the master's program "Designing Highly Loaded Internet Services", led by Pavel Keino.
The event was opened by Maria Kolesnikova, Chief Analyst of the Coordination Center, who spoke about the mission and activities of the Coordination Center in the field of Internet development and its infrastructure. She stressed that the knowledge gained by students at the event should be in the list of professional skills of every programmer today.
Vadim Mikhailov, technical consultant for Infrastructure of the Coordination Center, delivered a lecture for the participants of the meeting on the topic “Internationalization Of Domain And Mail Addressing: Theory And Practice”. He spoke about the technical aspects of encodings, support for national alphabets in DNS and mail services, and the nuances of developing internationalized services on the Internet. Vadim also demonstrated practical examples of implementing the Universal Acceptance of Cyrillic domain names and email addresses in the design and development of software.
During the lecture, students had a chance to test various mail services for supporting Cyrillic email addresses using the tools of the “Поддерживаю.РФ” project. At the end of the lecture Evgeny Pankov, Head of special projects of Center, held a quiz "Study the Internet & Govern It!", the winners of which received commemorative prizes. The participants of the event were divided into teams and answered entertaining questions on the topics just discussed in the lecture. “The topic of the event is best suited to the trajectory of students' education, whose future is connected with the construction of the infrastructure of large services and the Internet in general,” said Pavel Keino, finishing the event.
The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Moscow Aviation Institute signed this year a cooperation agreement, and the event became the first joint project!
