"DOT-journalism 2023" Has Started

On May 25, the 11th competition for Internet journalists "DOT-Journalism 2023" started on the Main Stage of RIF 2023. This is a competition for journalists writing about domains and other Internet addressing systems, which is held by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ with the support of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) and an accredited domain name registrar REG.RU.

Both professional journalists and bloggers and novice authors (below 18 years old) are invited to participate in the Contest - their works are accepted in the special nomination "Junkors". The award will be given in 6 main categories:

  • "Most about domains" (series of publications by one author)
  • "What's inside?" (the best article about network infrastructure)
  • Domain Coffee Break (reports on various industry events)
  • "Domain (security) danger" (publications about cyber security)
  • "About domains in details" (the best publication for the mass reader)
  • DOT blogger
  • Special nomination by REG.RU

The requirements for submissions can be found here.

The start of the competition was given by Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, and Ekaterina Demkina, Executive Director of RAEC.

“The Center has been supporting the DOT-journalism contest since 2012, and the number of its participants is growing year by year - last time more than 1,000 publications were submitted for the contest, we even had to make a short list for the jury. I am glad that the number of journalists interested in the Internet industry and domain topics is growing. They write about it competently, they are professionally versed in the domain market and contribute to the popularization of Russian domain zones,” Andrey Vorobyev said.

Ekaterina Demkina recalled the DOT blogger nomination, which first appeared last year. “This is an important and interesting nomination, primarily for young people. So keep your blogs, shoot your videos, Shorts, Reels and participate in our competition,” she said.

Irina Danelia, Deputy Director of the Smart Internet Foundation, presented the Junkors nomination: “We have returned to the fact that there will be a separate nomination for novice journalists, and this gives young journalists and bloggers an opportunity to prove themselves and win competition awards. In addition, 2023 has been declared the Year of the Teacher and Mentor, and who, if not students, should tell about their favorite teachers - one of the competitive topics for juniors was the topic “IT teacher”.

Evgenia Kirillova, Head of the Bank of Russia Museum's digital direction, who was included in the competition jury this year, noted that journalism is going through a difficult time today, but a crisis is always a point of professional growth. “The contestants are given a great opportunity to prove themselves and thereby show that we have a lot of journalists who can make quality media,” she said.

Natalya Andrus, Head of the press service of the competition partner REG.RU, spoke about the registrar's special nomination.

Applications for the DOT Journalism 2023 competition will be open until November 1, 2023, and the results will be summed up in December - the winners of the competition will receive diplomas and valuable prizes.
