On November 28, the TASS press center hosted a press conference dedicated to the opening of the 14th Russian Internet Week (RIW 2022). Russian Internet Week is a series of events dedicated to the digital loop of Russia. This year, RIW is going to be held on December 12-13 and will combine several block conferences on key topics of the digital economy, master classes and strategic sections. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ is a permanent partner and co-organizer of the Week.
The conference was addressed by the Deputy Director of RAEC Sergey Grebennikov, General Director of ANO Tsifrovaya ekonomika Sergey Plugotarenko, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev, Marketing Director of inSales Svetlana Beregulina, Director of Brand Development Tricolor Antonina Petrova.
Andrey Vorobyev spoke on how the Internet and communications infrastructure is developing, about trends in Internet consumption and about the events that the Coordination Center has planned for RIW 2022.
Andrey also noted that according to the statistics of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation, the amount of information transmitted via the Internet in Russia in 2021 (fixed + mobile access) increased by 127.3% compared to 2020 and amounted to 107.7 billion GB. Speedtest Global Index and IAA TelecomDaily meters recorded a slight decrease in the average speed of mobile Internet in Russia in 2021 (Speedtest Global Index - by 0.1 Mbps, IAA TelecomDaily - by 0.6 Mbps). At the same time, the situation with limited access to equipment significantly affected the tariffs of Internet providers, and in February-March 2022, a number of companies announced an increase in the cost of Internet access.
The director of the Center also spoke about the trends in the development of Russian ccTLDs .RU and .РФ. He noted that in 2022 there was a slight decrease in the number of domain names in .RU - this is primarily due to the refusal of a number of foreign registrars and hosters to support domain names in the .RU zone and, for this reason, a decrease in the number of foreign administrators. At the same time, the national Cyrillic domain .РФ feels quite confident and shows growth.
“At the Russian Internet Week, we will talk about how providers managed to fulfill their economic forecasts and how equipment supply problems will affect the industry in 2023. At the same time, the growth of online consumption continues - this is due to the development of infrastructure solutions, and this is a reserve for positive trends. It should be noted that the Runet Prize will be devoted to the topic of changing trends. Our special nomination “Travels in .РФ” this year is dedicated to resources in the .РФ domain, which popularize travel in Russia. Another traditional project within the framework of RIW is the awarding of the laureates of the DOT-Journalism competition – the authors of the best publications about the Internet and Internet technologies,” Andrey Vorobyev added.
