Digitalization Of Modern International Negotiations

On October 13th–15th, MGIMO University hosted the 14th Russian International Studies Association (RISA) Convention. The Convention has gathered over 1,500 leading Russian and foreign scholars to discuss historical, socio-economic, political and legal aspects of shaping a new world order.

On October 14, participants of the plenary session “World. Beyond The Usual” discussed current social, economic and political trends in shaping the international agenda. The speeches were devoted to the most pressing issues of our time and in many ways gave direction to subsequent discussions at numerous expert sessions of the convention. Russian presidential adviser Mr. Fursenko, Special Representative of the President for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Bogdanov, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Mr. Afanasiev and other experts addressed the event. The discussion was moderated by MGIMO Rector Academician Mr. Torkunov.

After the plenary sessions, the conference's work was traditionally separated into blocks. Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.PФ, took part in the section "Digitalization Of Modern International Negotiations." His speech was devoted to the process of Internet Governance and the participation of Russian organizations and specialists in this process. Andrey Vorobyev briefed the session participants on the results of the 12th Russian Internet Governance Forum and the 15th International conference for ccTLD registries and registrars of CIS, Central and Eastern Europe, which were held by the Coordination Center in September. “The Summer School on Internet Governance, which we are hosting partnering St. Petersburg State University for the third time, is another one of our projects. A record number of applications—more than 150—were submitted for participation in the school's preparatory and qualifying stage, which is currently under way. Based on the outcomes of the first stage, 40 participants will be chosen for the main stage, and people who successfully complete the training will be awarded a diploma from St. Petersburg State University proving that they have mastered the additional education program. I invite everyone to participate in the Summer School on Internet Governance in 2023 since I am confident it will take place,” Andrey Vorobyev said.

The topic of Internet Governance was continued by Roman Chukov (Center for Global IT-Cooperation), who spoke about the past Russian Youth Internet Governance Forums and the work of Russian experts in the Global Digital Compact project. In general, the topic of youth participation in Internet Governance is one of the most relevant today for both Russian and international Internet audiences, and involving young people in this process is an important task for the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and its partners.
