Today, May 12, the Russian ccTLD .РФ turns 12 years old. . РФ became the world's first Cyrillic domain zone, and still remains the largest Cyrillic domain and the second largest IDN domain.
The Russian domain .РФ was registered in the international ccTLDs database maintained by IANA on May 12, 2010. On the night of May 12-13, 2010, the first Cyrillic websites to be launched were президент.рф and правительство.рф. Open registration of domains started on November 11, 2010, and in the first day more than 240,000 Cyrillic domains were registered.
Today there are 672,816 domain names in the .РФ domain and about 500 new domains are registered every day. These domain names are managed by 314,999 administrators, and you can register a domain name in .РФ at any of the 120 accredited registrars, and the number of registrars has grown significantly over the year - 24 more companies joined them over the year, not only from Moscow, but also from other regions of the country.
92.2% of .РФ domains are registered in Russia and 7.8% - abroad. 24.6% of domain names in .РФ are younger than one year, and 16.1% or 108,049 domain names are older than 10 years, that is, they are practically the same age as .РФ itself.
It’s interesting, more than 50% of domain names in .РФ are used for addressing websites, landing pages and web applications, and today only 11.1% of domain names are used for redirects.
Security in the .РФ domain is provided by competent organizations - over the past year, registrars received 182 complaints from them about the domain abuse in the .РФ zone, and 177 of them concerned phishing.

Today, we work hard to ensure that .РФ and other non-Latin domains are universally accepted so that they are available to as many users as possible. Every hour a question about the .РФ domain and other Cyrillic domains will appear on the website. Each question has 60 minutes to answer, after which a new question appears.
